  • Department: Area Agency on Aging
    Location: Grand Gateway Economic Development Association (GGEDA)
    Job Type: Full-Time | 40 Hours/Week
    Schedule: Monday–Thursday
    Work Location: In Person

    Overview

    Under the general direction of the Area Agency on Aging Director and in coordination with the Oklahoma State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Office, the Ombudsman provides leadership in the development, coordination, and implementation of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program. This position serves as an advocate for residents of long-term care facilities, ensuring their rights are protected and their concerns are heard.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Receive, investigate, and resolve complaints made by or on behalf of residents in long-term care facilities.

    • Refer issues to state staff or enforcement agencies when resolution cannot be achieved locally.

    • Provide education and outreach on long-term care issues to the community and facility staff.

    • Recruit, train, and supervise state-certified Ombudsman volunteers.

    • Conduct volunteer training sessions and monthly meetings for continued education.

    • Review policies, laws, and regulations that impact residents’ rights and care.

    • Maintain communication with state ombudsman staff and submit required reports and documentation.

    Education & Experience

    Candidates may qualify through one of the following pathways:

    • High school diploma or GED with two (2) years of full-time experience in social, health, or aging services.

    • Bachelor’s degree in social work, health, gerontology, social sciences, or a related field.

    • Equivalent combination of education and experience (one year of relevant full-time experience may substitute for one year of required education, up to two years).
