NUTRITION

Grand Gateway Area Agency on Aging has ten federal/state funded Title III Older Americans Act congregate (meal) sites in Northeast Oklahoma and 42 independent senior centers funded by Oklahoma’s CENA program. The Older Americans Act Title III Congregate Sites and Home Delivered Meals program provides a standard of 1/3 RDA requirements in the meals that are served five days a week.
Congregate meal sites provide more than a meal. Socialization, health activities, wellness screenings, nutrition education, exercise programs and links to additional services ensuring that seniors remain in their homes and communities.

Home-delivered meal recipients are determined and prioritized by an annual assessment conducted with each recipient to determine nutritional risk, activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living. We have provided expansion of frozen OAA meals in the rural areas of Northeast Oklahoma as demand has increased. Title III Older Americans Act home delivered meals have a suggested donations rate determined by the participant (donation is not required).

Other in-home meals are prepared by Meals on Wheels programs or hospitals and are generally limited to larger communities. These programs are often fee based which is necessary to fund these home-delivered meals programs.
