(See explanation below for New Member and Annual Trainings).

Grand Gateway provides New Council Member Orientation Training on an ongoing basis when new council members are recruited to the Advisory Council on Aging.  When New Council Members are sworn in (after Application approval by the Advisory Council and Governing Board of Directors), the new Council Member is provided a Handbook which includes, Council Roster, By-Laws, Commonly used acronyms used in the Aging Network, Committees, council minutes, policy pertaining to AAA Advisory Council, Overview of OAA Aging Network, Organizational charts, outline of OAA programs and services, Management plan Goals & Objectives and information on Silver Haired Legislators.

Grand Gateway provides training opportunities for new Advisory Council members to attend Older Americans Act (03A) Trainings when conducted in our PSA.  The O3A Trainings include detailed information on the Aging Network (federal, state, and local), as well as education on how the Aging Network prioritizes Older Americans Act programs and services. Grand Gateway has three Certified O3A Trainers who conducts these trainings on an ongoing basis when the AAA has new staff or council members and when our OAA sub-grantees have new staff.

Grand Gateway provides annual trainings for OAA service providers. The training date, location and training topics are coordinated with our OAA sub-grantee Project Directors.  Grand Gateway’s Advisory Council, SHL members, Caregiver Council members and Ombudsman volunteers also attend this annual training.

Grand Gateway’s Advisory Council is currently actively recruiting a Hispanic and African American for the Advisory council to fill the two positions vacated, which represented this voice on the council.  Grand Gateway is working with the Veterans Center to seek someone from their organizations to serve on the council.
